The Most Important Part of Skin Care? SLEEP!

We’ve posted several articles about the various things you can do at home to dramatically improve the quality of your skin. But there are few things you can do like getting a great night’s sleep.

There are a lot of components that go into this. So let’s dive right in!

1. Lack of Sleep Can Cause Breakouts

Most enemies in the body cause inflammation. It could be cellular, muscular, or a whole host of other types, but the result is always the same — negative effects. In terms of your skin, inflammation can cause dryness, redness, and the dreaded breakout. This is why it’s always a great idea to make sure you have factored in enough sleep into your nightly routine. As best as you are able, don’t skip out on rest!

2. Fewer Fine Lines and Wrinkles

Fine lines and wrinkles happen for a variety of reasons, but getting the right amount of sleep helps your body to rid cleanse itself of many of the toxins which can end up causing skin to dry out and become brittle. Cells regenerate while we sleep, and just like a lack of sleep can cause breakouts, it will also likely make fine lines and wrinkles that much worse.

3. Blood Flow to Skin Cells

When you are at rest, your blood flows more readily throughout your body. As the transportation system your body uses to get important compounds from one spot to another, your blood flow matters a great deal. Without proper blood flow, your skin cells will have a much more difficult time regenerating, leading to all sorts of problems with your complexion.

4. Sleepless Weight Gain and Stretch Marks

One of the worst outcomes that can come from lack of sleep is weight gain. It isn’t so much that missing sleep will directly cause an increase in weight, but rather it causes a shift in your habits. Sometimes, we crave more calories when we’re tired, more energy to keep us moving.

What ends up happening is that weight gain, especially quick weight gain, can cause stretch marks to appear throughout the body. One of the best ways to help moderate your weight is to ensure you’re getting plenty of sleep at night.

5. More Efficiency

You probably spend a good deal of money on beauty and skin care products. What if I told you that not getting enough sleep is tantamount to throwing money down a hole? It’s true!

If you’re purchasing creams and aloes that are supposed to promote greater skin health, yet you aren’t sleeping very well, then you are losing out on huge amounts of effectiveness in your regimen. None of us likes to lose out — we all want to get the most out of what we pay for! So to get the absolute most out of your skin care treatments and products, make sure you’re sleeping well.
